Family Session at Marymoor Park in Redmond, WA

Marymoor Park in Redmond, WA during the winter months of the pacific northwest might not sound like a good idea, but it definitely isn’t a bad one! There is an open dog park and great outdoor nature feel to this space. I had David and his family meet me out here starting at Parking Lot G and we started off in a space where there was more color in the tree leaves.

I love the location where we started off. It’s semi-secluded and very open. You wouldn’t have been able to tell we just walked over 5 minutes from the parking lot. I started with some lifestyle walking shoots to get us all warmed up, but we didn’t even need that! The kids were already having a great time and just played around. This is exactly the moments I want to capture; nothing too posed or staged. Whatever the kid’s personalities are, I want that to come out in the photos. I move into some family stills and formals, some other shots just highlighting the kids, and also just the kids themselves! The children-only shots might be my favorite. They did so well; looked at the camera with big smiles, looked at each other with big smiles, and played around with each other in a way that looked so natural that it didn’t even seem like the camera was there.

We then started walking to another location where there was a wooden frame area long with some overhanging evergreen/pine like leaves. I loved this scenery. The wooden walkway framed the family from the sides, and the pine leaves framed the family from the top. This is one of my favorite composition styles where I’m able to add layers and bring visual interest to a photo, and this was the perfect spot to do so! I capture more family stills and candids here, which only took 10 minutes and we were on to the next location!

There’s another more open area where I get some individual shots of each kid, along with father+son and mother+daughter. These were so cute, and I could tell the kids continued to enjoy the session! At the end, I brought the family back together for some more family shots. All in all, the hour passed by so quickly. As I got home and started editing the photos, I am reminded and relive the session. I’m so proud to have been able to deliver this gallery to this beautiful family where their kids will never look how they look again, and this is something they will be able to hang onto and cherish forever.
