Danny and Maivy | Luther Burbank Park Engagement Session

SEATTLE ENGAGEMENT PHOTOGRAPHER

Engaged couple at the docks of Luther Burbank Park on Mercer Island.

First engagement photosession of 2024! Although the Pacific Northwest winters are brutal, that doesn’t stop this couple from having their engagement session so they can send off their save the dates soon! Danny and Maivy had so many locations in mind outside of Luther Burbank Park. I honestly would have been thrilled to shoot at any of them. When they decided to go with Luther Burbank Park, I scoped it out and got more excited! The dockside area is just beautiful. Opens up to Lake Washington, there is a skyline in the background of nature and Bellevue waterfront homes. Just gorgeous. There’s so many other nice foliage areas as well and even though we’re right in the winter season, we make the most of it!

Couple sharing a dip pose together at Luther Burbank Park on Mercer Island

We start off at the dock and it’s honestly beautiful from any angle. There’s a nice brick structure in the background with multiple dock areas, which create many leading lines that draw interest to my couple and the brick structure in the back. Although it did start to get crowded and not wanting people in the background, I move us over to the dockside where it’s just open waters in the back. Shooting any angle and focal length honestly looks so good here. We spent most of our time here and I honestly could have done our entire engagement session here, but we move on to get different backgrounds and scenery.

Newly engaged couple sharing an intimate moment sitting ona bench in Luther Burbank Park

As we walk towards the North side, there’s just a bit of some green scrubbery we can make use of. A bench right by some pine trees. This space allowed for some shots where Danny and Maivy could sit down and have a small break! There’s some other nearby pine trees, along with some dead trees around but I do what I can to incorporate those “better looking” trees and exclude the dead trees from the frame by stepping backwards and shooting long. I had my 70-200mm lens on me and just having this focal length lets me isolate my subjects in a rather not attractive background. Danny and Maivy had so much fun with this, and so did I! We move on to this nice, large amphitheatre with a wooden backdrop. Just really interesting architecture that you don’t see elsewhere. I get some focus shots of the ring and some more casual shot of the beautiful couple!

Although I would have loved to shoot here closer to the summer time, There’s always ways to make the best of unfavorable situations in photography. It was cold out here but I love what I do and was so excited to break the dry winter spell of the pacific northwest slow shooting season, that I would have done this again and again.
