This simple elopement between Zach and Barbara, turned out to be full of character, and heartfelt emotions. Willows Lodge was the perfect venue for them as they wanted a space that was intimate and cozy given their elopement included only 4 other family members. Willows Lodge is intimate, cozy, warm, and elegant, which truly reflects upon Zach and Barbara’s character as I soon found out upon getting to know them.

The day began in one of Willows Lodge’s suite where Zach, Barbara, and their family was getting ready. We started off with some simple family photos around the outside of the lodge, before moving on to couples portraits. As soon as we started shooting, I could tell that this was not Zach and Barbara’s first time being photographed. They were so natural in front of the camera, and posed in a way that looked natural, without requiring significant direction from me. I was so impressed! Their love truly shined through and their photographs reflected that. It didn’t even feel like a photoshoot; it felt like a date with me third wheeling and capturing their love.

As we move around the outdoor courtyard areas of Willows Lodge, there’s so no shortage of beautiful backgrounds and scenery to capture. The residual trunk of a willow tree, a beautiful naturally paved gravel pathway, countless species of shrubbery and trees, a beautiful pergola, the list goes on and on. The courtyard at Willows Lodge truly gives a clean and elegant enviornment, perfect for any type of photosession. Upon getting to know Zach and Barbara more, I learn more about their background. Barbara is from Brazil, while Zach is from the states. As I gave additional instruction to Barbara, Zach translated for her in very fluent Portugese. Curious about their background, I learned that Zach learned Portugese just for her. Nothing is more romantic to me than learning a new language for a partner. Being bilingual myself, and conversational in French, I understand that learning a new language, in your adult years, is far from easy.

As we finish with couples portraits, I grab some bridal and groom portraits for just Barbara and Zach individually. This is always something fun and meaningful to do; a lot of couples don’t think they need or want them, but I find later on, they appreciate when these are captured. Zach and Barbara did just as well individually, as they did together. Beautiful couples and individuals, I could not be more proud and honored to capture their special day as a Seattle elopement photographer.

We move back into the suite for the ceremony. The space is tight but we make it work. There are phones recording in the backcorner to live video call several of Barbara’s family back in Brazil so they can witness their marriage live. With an exchange of vows and rings, this ceremony was as heartful and meaningful as any wedding.

After the ceremony concludes, Zach and Barbara exchange intimate hugs with their family members, followed by campaign toasts, signing of the marriage certificate, celebrating with their remote guests, and cake cutting. Overall, Zach and Barbara have a beautiful story, a heartfelt elopement, supported by intimate family members.
